It’s Shop Small Saturday, the official start of the local holiday shopping season, and for the 11th year in a row, small businesses in Eagle Rock are rolling out the collective welcome mat.
This year, the emphasis is on Eagle Rock’s women-owned retail shops. You will recognize them by the balloons (helium-free) adorning the shops. Nine women-owned shops on Eagle Rock Boulevard and six on Colorado Boulevard (see map below) are hosting in-store and online/virtual promotions from November 26 -29, the busiest shopping days of the year. Offerings include food, clothing, home décor, plants, gifts, jewelry, books and more.
In addition to highlighting 15 women-owned stores, the Shop Small organizers have profiled 31 other local businesses under the “Boutique Businesses” tab on the Shop Small “We Heart Eagle Rock” website. You’ll find local places to shop for gifts, toys and specialty items, kids’ clothes and activities, health and beauty services and, of course, restaurants – 16 of them from casual to swank, from coffee shop to wine bar to neighborhood pub, including places for breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, dine in and takeout.
Leanna Lin, the owner of Leanna Lin’s Wonderland on Eagle Rock Boulevard and a longtime champion of Eagle Rock’s Shop Small event, said the organizers wanted to showcase women-owned retail shops as part of the overall message to support local small businesses. “Shop small, eat small, drink small,” said Lin – and not just this weekend, but throughout the holidays and in the New Year, too.
