Shirley Joan Wisdom, a.k.a. “Granny,” a longtime resident of Eagle Rock, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the age of 83.

She worked many different jobs, including furniture sales at Montgomery Wards and as a billing clerk at Glendale Adventist Hospital.

But she was best known as one of the founders of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary 2188. For 10 years, she cooked eggs and served champagne at the Auxiliary’s breakfasts and was known there as the “Champagne Lady.” Shirley also served as the Chaplin for the Auxiliary for 13 years and volunteered for countess fundraisers.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Bryan Manhart, who died in 2015. She is survived by daughters, Robin Quanstrom (who still lives in Eagle Rock), Sharon Grippo (who lives in Arizona) and by her beloved sister, Barbara Allen of Hacienda Heights. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Shirley loved to travel and lived life to the fullest. She was one of a kind. She will be truly missed by family and friends.
