About one third of NELA residents age 16 and up remain unvaccinated

In Eagle Rock this week, the QueensCare COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic scheduled for July 9 at St. Dominic Church was canceled due to low turnout at a previous vaccination clinic in June.

Low demand for the vaccine locally comes at a time when nearly 30% of the people in Eagle Rock age 16 and older have not yet been vaccinated, according to the latest data from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

In other neighborhoods in and near Northeast L.A., the data show that 30% to 35% of people age 16 and older are still unvaccinated.

Here are the latest vaccination rates for people age 16 and older in NELA neighborhoods: Eagle Rock, 71%; Glassell Park, 70%; Elysian Valley, 69%; Mount Washington, 68%; Highland Park, 67%; Lincoln Heights, 66% and El Sereno, 65%.

Vaccination rates in NELA neighborhoods are higher for the population age 65 and older, ranging from 85% of senior citizens vaccinated in El Sereno to 76% in Glassell Park.

(L.A. County vaccination rates include people who have had at least one shot.)

Health officials warn that the unvaccinated are at high and increasing risk of contracting and spreading the Delta variant of the coronavirus, now circulating in L.A. Recently, coronavirus cases and hospitalizations in L.A. County have risen sharply.

Studies show that vaccinated people are well protected from serious COVID-19 illness, though the L.A. Times reported today that health officials are now asking whether the Delta variant may be carried asymptomatically by vaccinated people and then transmitted to the unvaccinated.

“Without an answer, and given that weekly coronavirus cases in L.A. County have suddenly doubled and COVID-19 hospitalizations have jumped by more than 30%, the L.A. County Department of Public Health last week recommended that even fully vaccinated people resume wearing masks in indoor public areas until more definitive information about the Delta variant emerged,” wrote Times Staff Writer Rong-Gong Lin Il.

  1. A 71% vaccination rate for Eagle Rock doesn’t sound bad compared with a lot of places until you realize that includes partial vaccinations. We can do better, but I’m not sure what celebrity or politician needs to come knocking on hesitant people’s doors with shots on a silver platter to convince them. Maybe they need to turn off Fox News.

  2. Fox News gets blamed again. There’s always a scapegoat, isn’t there? These days even a flu vaccine gets politicized (see above comment). I’m not getting the vax because I choose not to, and I don’t watch Fox News. But let’s keep the hysteria going. 95% of people in the east San Gabriel Valley are still wearing masks. Hopefully the next election will again use mail-in ballots. It’s all political.

  3. Vaccine no thanks… Deaths reported from Covid-19 “vaccines” had their largest spike to date this week and it wasn’t even close. The total death count from the Covid injections jumped nearly 30% with 2,063 reported in a single week, bringing the total to 9,048.

    1. VAERS data released today by the CDC showed a total of 438,441 reports of adverse events from all age groups following COVID vaccines, including 9,048 deaths and 41,015 serious injuries between Dec. 14, 2020 and July 2, 2021.

  4. As of August 25th (just checked), VAERS is reporting 13,068 deaths with 54,142 hospitalized from the COVID-19 vaccine.

Should we be repeating this information from the CDC or are we risking being “CANCELLED” and blocked from this site.

We live in the United States where freedom used to ring loudly. If you choose to vaccinate, good for you! You are less likely to get sick, die, or pass the desease to others. If you choose not to get vaccinated, good for you! It’s ON YOU if you get sick, die, or pass it to other unvaccinated that CHOSE not to vaccinate. You should have the freedom to decide that for yourself and not be relegated to second class citizens by being restricted from engaging in every day activities. Check what racial groups are less likely to be vaccinated. Talk about another reason for racism to rear its ugly head again in the name of health and safety.

God help all those mandated to be vaccinated or lose their job…we are already short police officers and health care workers.

    1. OMG !! Finally someone that has half a brain. Eagle, your remarks are so smart and intelligent. I will just add that many that do no vaccinate simply do NOT trust the government. And, I don’t blame them. Government LIED that Agent Orange was safe, that abestos was safe, that lead paint was safe, that Mercury in kids vaccines were safe, that many, many, other things were safe that later turned out NOT to be safe.

So those that want to blindly like sheep take a vaccine where there are no long term studies, are ignorant of the past. And, those that choose not to vaccinate are educated on what bad deeds government has done in the past.
